About Ole Olson

Ole Olson is a Montana trial lawyer whose practice runs from the courtroom to state government to the technology reshaping legal work. Over nearly two decades he has tried dozens of cases to juries across Montana, argued appeals before the Montana Supreme Court, and led the legal department of a Montana constitutional office. His connection to the state runs generations deep — his family has called Montana home since before statehood.

He came to law from engineering — three years as a practicing chemical engineer with Air Liquide before law school — a background that still shapes how he approaches cases built on technical, scientific, or digital evidence. He spent more than a decade as a prosecutor, trying high-profile, complex cases as a special prosecutor for the Montana Department of Justice and as a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney — among them a decades-old cold-case homicide and one of Montana's first no-body homicide prosecutions. As statewide Prosecution Training Coordinator, he trained and advised Montana's prosecutors on their toughest cases and led criminal-justice-reform legislation, and he helped oversee implementation of the agreement resolving the U.S. Department of Justice's investigation into Missoula's handling of sexual-assault cases.

As Chief Legal Counsel to the Montana Commissioner of Securities and Insurance, he rebuilt the agency's legal department into a high-performing team — recognized with the Governor's Award for Excellence in 2023 — directing attorneys, paralegals, and investigators across white-collar enforcement and complex civil litigation.

Today he advises corporations and law firms on AI and eDiscovery, bringing an engineer's discipline and a deep, practical understanding of technology to what the tools can do and what the rules of practice require. He counsels agency leaders, businesses, and individuals across Montana, partners with attorneys whose clients need Montana counsel, and practices from Helena on matters statewide.
